A year and a half ago, I found myself offering to teach English to a young Mexican couple I'd just met. There was one major problem: I can speak Spanish passably well, but I had no idea of even the basic principles of how to teach someone a language. I did some research and found Mr. Ortiz's book, which has 36 chapters of conversational instruction (and at the end of each chapter, an independent reading section). Each chapter builds on the previous one using repetition and timely introduction of new terms and concepts. I am so grateful that Mr. Ortiz put together this wonderful book, because it has served me well in my otherwise informal lessons. I am so proud of the progress my students have made so far. They've now graduated to the second volume of this book.Note: Ortiz suggests using the book on a daily basis, but due to schedule constraints, my students and I have only been able to meet once a week at most. Still, this hasn't stopped them from absorbing the lessons--just at a slower pace. I'll also note that Mr. Ortiz was kind enough to email me a PDF of both books after I ordered the Kindle versions, so I could print it out and have a hard copy for my lessons.
